Our Mission

Uttarsahi Chhau Nrutya Pratisthan is dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and evolution of Mayurbhanj Chhau, a unique and dynamic dance form that blends martial arts, storytelling, and classical grace. Established by the visionary Maharaja Krushna Chandra Bhanjdeo, our mission is to uphold the cultural heritage of Mayurbhanj while adapting Chhau to contemporary expressions without losing its traditional essence.

We strive to:

  • Train and mentor new generations of artists through structured workshops, residencies, and performances.
  • Preserve the original techniques and narratives of Chhau, including traditional masks, music, and choreography.
  • Collaborate with cultural institutions and communities globally to bring awareness and appreciation for Chhau as a living art form.
  • Document and archive rare repertoires, oral histories, and visual records to ensure continuity for future generations.
  • Empower local artisans, musicians, and performers by providing them with platforms, recognition, and sustainable livelihoods.

At Uttarsahi Chhau Nrutya Pratisthan, we believe that tradition and innovation can co-exist. Through our efforts, we seek to keep the spirit of Chhau alive — not just as a dance, but as a proud symbol of Mayurbhanj’s identity, resilience, and artistic excellence.
